Akyarlar is located at the south-western part of Bodrum peninsula, being the closest point to the Greek island of Kos. Its history has roots in a traditional Turkish village that relied on fishing and sponge diving for its main income.

Gümüşlük is a small seaside village and fishing port on the western tip of Bodrum peninsula, called Yali by the locals. Its name means „the place of silver“ and in the ancient times was known as Myndos. The remains of the ancient Myndos, whose seafront slid into the sea in long-forgotten earthquake, are a magnet for snorkellers and underwater photographers. Gümüşlük is renowned for its sunsets over the horizon in Aegean Sea. It boasts unique flora, the appealing landscape, sandy beaches and fish restaurants along the shore-line.
